  Hi,

Unknown Song:  12-16-2007
Ok, this is driving me completely bonkers !  I cant find this song, I have looked in itubes, ask.com, searched for lyrics.  I've spent about 3 hours on it, and have nothing.  The problem is that its one of those songs where the guy is wining a lot and the words are not that clear.  I took a short recording of it on my cell phone, at the time I didn't care enough to walk closer to the speaker so its about half background noise, but if you crank it up its pretty easy to hear the song.  Listen for the high pitched guitar tune, its a simple finger plucking tune.

The File

There are a few lyrics not in the recording that I thought I heard.  In one part it seems like he says "I'm Scared, I'm Scared", and in another part, pretty often, it sounds like he says "I Lost You"

The artists voice sounds most similar to:
"All-American Rejects - It ends Tonight (Acoustic Version)"
"Nick Lachey - I do it for you"

I cooked it up in sound forge, slowed it down, normalized it, filtered it, flipped it, but none of those are as good as the original linked above.

So far I know it isn't:  (Because I've listed to every song, or enough songs in iTunes)

  • Dave Matthews
  • All-American Rejects
  • Nick Lachey
  • Ryan Cabrera
  • Switchfoot
  • Howie Day
  • Daniel Powter
  • The Fray
  • Fall Out Boy
  • Lifehouse
  • James Blunt
  • Train
  • John Mayer
  • 3 Door Down

If you can listen to this and tell me what it is, I will be your friend forever !

Lego's, Bidding... 12-15-2007
So I've been buying up legos recently, as of tonight thanks to a recent win I am up to 120 lb, best I can figure I had about 15 lb of plain legos, and 10 lb of technics when I was a kid, also when I was a kid I thought about when I was older I would buy all of the cool lego sets, like the airtech claw rig, and the 8880 Super car.

Other neat sets:
Ferrari F1 Racer
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano    (I want this one)
Holiday Train  (Yes, this will circle my Christmas tree next year)
Tower Crane
Eiffel Tower     This is a 1:300 scale model
Millennium Falcon
Imperial Star Destroyer  While lame, this ship is very very very large.
Truck Crane

And then if you think those are neat, here are the models that got me excited about lego's again, its just amazing, and so difficult to create something so elaborate.  These are more in line with what im trying to do with the lego crane (see 11-8-2007)

The Robot People... 12-14-2007
So today I was at meijer, catching up some errands, overjoyed at the prospect of purchasing dish detergent, a new shower curtain liner, Windex, oh and yes of course.  Soap sponge pads.  It used to be that all of the soap sponges were clad with a brillow pad, the last 3 or 4 times i have tried to buy soap sponges i have found that they are not a regular item, yes they have the ones with sponge only, but those tend to be nothing more than soap pumps, they over soap, and also don't last as long.

The good soap sponge pads have a thing layer of brillow pad over the front of them, what I was after.  The usual drill is to not find them initially, but dig into the piles of generic brillowless sponges until i find a couple of the good ones :).  Well today i found 5 of the good sponges, however they did not have a barcode, or other markings on them at all.

Knowing I would run into the 'price check' dilemma at checkout, I found myself an employee in the next isle to give me a price tag.  She took a look at my soap sponge's, and quickly assessed that they were the same as the brillow-padless sponges hanging on the shelf, and suggested that I just buy those.  I mentioned to her that they were not the same, and pointed out the brillowpad on my sponges.  I say my because I was going to buy them no matter what.  She again suggested they were the same, despite the very obvious difference I had just pointed out.  Also mine were a different color, and different size, which i did not point out, didn't want to make it to confusing.

She went to find the kitchen works lady, who again pointed out they were the same as the two packs on the shelf, I begged to differ and again pointed out that mine have a brillowpad, the ones in the package do not.  They deduced that since I had found 5 of the pads, then they must be different, since it is unlikely that 5 would fall out of the package.  At this she suggested I tell the cashier they are the same price as the packaged ones, and to ring them up as such.  The Packaged Brillow-padless sponges are 1.99 for two, I have 5 sponges in my cart.  This is where it gets interesting.

What happened next is hard to explain, I caught the cashiers attention, and explained holding up the packaged brillow-padless sponges:  "These are 1.99 for a pack of two, I have 5 individual sponges <pointing at mine>, the lady in kitchen works said they cost the same.".  OH ok, (that was easy !) was the response, as she proceeded to scan the two-pack 5 times, I stopped her on the 3rd scan and again explained that I had 5 sponges, if a two pack is 1.99, that makes them 1$ each. or 2.5 double packs.  The dear in the headlights quickly calculated a total of 10$ as she didn't understand the problem.  As she proceeded to scan number 4 and number 5.  I took a moment to stop her again stating: "Look, that is a two pack, and contains two sponges for $1.99, that makes them 1$ each, i have 5 so it should be 5 dollars, not 10.  <long pause, and no response> "it doesn't matter to me how you do it, but these sponges are 1$ each."  At that she voided the 10$ worth of sponges and charged me 5x1$, all the while giving me the evil eye...

2008 Preview...  12-10-2007
So I've decided to use word 2007 to edit my next webpage, so I'm going to go with a new layout to take advantage of some of the fancy formatting tools :)  I'm going to miss the auto thumbnail, I guess that will force me to learn new methods :)  If your creative, then you can find the page... ^o.o^

Titans Game 12-9-2007
Thanks to the AT&T folks who let myself and Brian attend the game, the food, drinks, and view were all top notch.  I took this picture with my ppc6700 phone, its a 3 pane panoramic, pretty good for a phone camera eh?

Movies that Suck ! 12-6-2007
So you know how it goes, your doing something else, maybe playing on the internet, not really paying attention, TV on one of your channels just churning away, a movie comes on, and you kind of listen, watch short parts, and keep on doing what your doing.  After a while something catches your interest, and you start watching, all the while thinking 'gawd this movie sucks !'.  So at last I abandon the internet and commit to watching the end of this mystery.  Unfortunately, when the end doesn't seem to come, I check the guide and find out I'm half way through "
STEPHEN KING'S THE LANGOLIERS", well, I've done it now, I'm hooked, ill have to watch it through to the end, wish me luck !

Apple time Machine! 11-30-2007
This is neat, screw up?  Just pan back in time and click on the file as it was a day, week, month ago... Instead of numbers, OS 10 will stay 10.0 forever and name its versions after animals, this one is 'leopard', rar !  Definitely a 10 !

Clamp Thing 11-29-2007
So I made this thing tonight, I'm not really sure what it does yet... haha, just kidding.  The clamps are holding it together until the glue dries, ill post another picture of it in use in a few days :)

Pixies and Toadies 11-26-2007
The Pixies - Where is my Mind
Toadies - Tyler

What do they have in common?  Well they both end in "ies", and the riff sounds about the same.  Personally I prefer the Toadies.  Pixies rocks also.

Oh, and I want a baby grand, and someone to play it.

"The Guide To..." 11-19-2007
Every once in a while, I'm kinda bored and just decide to Google something random, tonight's random phrase is "The Guide To", boy was I pleased to find the 3rd hit as the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, what a great show !  I'm talking about the old one of course !  The Babel fish and the super computer Deep Thought are among my favorite clips.

Here you can watch the entire movie, in 4 parts...

Micro Gravity Speed vs. Warp Drive 11-16-2007
So for a long time, since I can remember, I have read that the speed of light cannot be breached, it is an insurmountable barrier that man can never achieve.  Personally I always thought that to be BS, or HS if your from Kentucky.  There must be a way to travel to distant stars.  In Star trek they have a warp drive, which allows the ship to travel up to a maximum speed of about warp 10.

The basic idea behind light speed travel, is that as you approach the speed of light you become more massive, and thus require more power to go faster, this is proven by experiments designed to prove that the theory is right, so of course they have concrete evidence.

There are other things at bay in the universe, for example, imagine the earth orbiting the sun, the earth is constantly accelerating towards the sun, that acceleration gives the planet just enough 'push' to turn and remain the same distance from the sun.  Now, imagine what would happen if the sun 'suddenly' just disappeared, gone, poof !  No mass, No Explosion, Just Beamed away.  For about 8 minutes we would have sunlight, but within a fraction of a second the earth would change trajectory, without the suns gravitational field, the earth would change direction from a circular orbit to a straight line.  This article describes this force which can act over great distances in little to no time.  Referred to lightly as 'gravity speed', it is the speed at which gravity can effect a distant object.

I felt compelled, so I created a chart to demonstrate just how far we can go with this 'Gravity Speed'

Chart of Warp Drive VS Speed of Light VS Power Consumption .

Be sure and look at the legend to understand the headings, if I could be pretty dorky for a second, i'm not a star trekky or anything, but I do remember an episode where the enterprise was flung 'across the galaxy', where it would take 2 years at maximum warp to return home.  That's about right, considering the warp scale.  If we could achieve even 1 millionth (1/1,000,000) the speed of gravity, which I will call Micro Gravity Speed, we could in theory travel to the most distant stars visible to the naked eye in about 7 months, the closest star in a couple of hours.  All it takes is gravitational propulsion.  With that in mind, it is entirely possible that some advanced form of civilization will find us before we develop this technology for ourselves.  This of course all assumes that other beings would experience time in the same way we do.

So I guess ill just bid on Lego's... 11-08-2007
Also, I like my MySpace song so much that I bought it, then I sent an email to the artist thanking him for sharing his music on MySpace, I encourage anyone reading this to do the same.  Support the artist !  Music should be free, unless you like it a lot, then pay for it !

I just bought your song 'look after you' on iTunes.

I know many people have, but what you must know is that without your willingness to share this music, in its entirety on MySpace, I would not have known about it, and I most likely would not have purchased it.

I promote, and support artists who let their music sell itself, and wanted to send you all kudos !

-Alan

Also... Since im about to list some 14 things on ebay, took all the pictures tonight, of course I was distracted by my old standby, LEGOs !  I just bid ??$ on 11 lb of legos, which is just below the market average for bulk Legos on ebay.  Many people don't know this, but when I lived with corbet i felt a little trapped, no workshop, no room for tools, legos were my salvation, and i still have that LIEBHERR LTM 1400 model to complete, just need more legos to finish it, and i think its more fun to buy then in bulk than buy from bricklink.  Bricklink is a great place in that i can buy what i need to finish the model, but generally at 10* the price...  Anyways, its alot more fun to rake through big piles.

The turntable of my model lego crane, the bearings are pipe stacks turned on side.  It probably took me a week to figure out how to build it.  The crane itself is the reflection of half a year.  It has powered crane turret rotation, powered steering, and powered drive train.  Also the Stabilizers are pneumatic.  All 14 wheels have suspension, the back two and front 3 steer.

Unfortunately, Steven wont be allowed to run.  So sad, guess we will have to wait till 2012

Speech Recognition 10-16-2007
I started to type his post in the front page, but had a little bit of difficulty because frontpage does not allow the text converter work, actually it’s speech recognition, and the easiest way to get speech recognition actually work is Jesus talk blew it normally.

Of course it’s really difficult because I’m talking to my computer and it just talk like a normal person is really really complicated.  So she can see that work out really well as a matter of fact and so if I can just think of things I need to say and keep on saying them what I would end up was was really good text.  Having said that all type the rest of my article on the keyboard.
<Watch me Say That>

I have spent a good deal of the evening playing with the speech recognition software, I decided that I would be a good strategic move to learn how to work with the software 'before' teaching it, in other words I have not read the standard paragraphs into the PC that are intended to calibrate the software, I did run the tutorial which shows me a lot of the windows commands, however i have found that saying a single word, the software is basically 100% accurate.  If you say a common phrase of 3-4 words, right out of the box, the software hits it dead on 999 out of 1000 times.  Anything else and your down to the 99% accuracy claim.

One of the most amazing things about the software is when i just relax and talk to the computer, like i would talk to a human, it all works very well !  In fact the text that has be interpreted the best, was recorded in that way, i have explained how to cook a steak twice, the first time i tought the PC the word 'Montreal', which during the second reading, was interpreted correctly.  So i do believe that with patience that anyone can learn how to truly use speech to text with greater accuracy that typing.

What I mean by greater accuracy is... Type a paragraph, and look at all the punctual errors and misspellings... Pretty bad.  Speech Recognition doesn't misspell words, it just occasionally uses the wrong word, which in fact is much easier to spot.

I also decided to see how productive I could be at work, when using excel, so I used excel (live for the first time) to add some numbers together.

File 1     File 2

Here is my second try at explaining how to cook a 'stake' , this video also includes how to use win amp (or how to open it and play a song), and the 'file' command will allow you to add songs to the play list.  The second half of the video is a live demonstration of the first time i tried to save a file, then re-open it (I Did it :)
Let me tell you how mike's take when I could a stake usually I pull it out of the fridge and then let it fall for little while. After that all pour some olive oil on it that will help to hold and the juices now pour a little bit onion powder on that. After that I like to put a little bit of Montreal seasoning on the stake. And then finally a little bit of garlic powder. After that I go outside the fire up to grill to 650°. Once the girls hot I'll take a stakes outside and throw them on the grill and close the lid for about a minute. After minute all open the lid and flipped the stakes over and then wait another minute. At that time a lower the temperature to 450°. All of them cook for 5 to 10 minutes depending on the thickness and then after that we're ready to eat
<Watch me Say that>

After I figured out I could browse the web, i sort of put the camera away for a while because that's just cool:  Here is a video of me randomly browsing the web.
<Web Browsing>

And here is how it doesn't work in legacy software (at all !)

Music... 10-14-2007
I had music on my site for a few days, but then realized that its pretty annoying that it cant be turned off, specially when clicking links etc.  So until I figure out how to present controls to start / stop, ill just going to take it down.  Might be a while, like maybe 10 years.

Kenny Chesney Deleted my MySpace Song 10-09-2007
Since he's a greedy prick, Or at least his record label 'UMG' is... I wont by buying the song on iTunes either.  However I would send 1$ to Kenny directly if I knew how.  Instead, I will be buying the new radio head album, I think ill pay about 7.50 for it, Considering they trust their fans.  Kenny just loves his fans (money).

Kenny, your an ass.  Go hang out with Lars Ulrich.

Additionally I noticed that Kenny's official website has two links when you load it, "Buy Physical, Buy Digital"... oh yea, and at the bottom there are other useful links if your a hopeless fan that cant see past the greed.

Ebay End Time Error 10-09-2007
Maybe I cant add, but it looks like to me its eBay on this occasion.  Check out the world time clock, and current time and date of the computer, the time left in the auction, and the date and time the action ends in this screen shot  I wanted to issue a reminder to myself so I would know to check the auction so I can track what it sold for (oh... and so I can bid at the last minute too !)  But looking at the time left, the end date, and the current time, I just don't see where the extra 2 hours comes from.

Bullet with Butterfly Wings 9-06-2007
Well, I've been neglecting to upload lately, because I was gathering information for what I thought might be my own 0.002 Cents dilemma... and didn't want to risk the chance that Google is to powerful to obey robots.  After all, Google knows everything, Better put on your tin cap.  Search results seem to show up in about 10 days.  For example, I could easily gather more hits by talking about current events.  Of course in order for that to happen, i would have to keep talking about current events, so I gather a plethora of loyal followers to click my page each day to increase my search relevance.  Of course all of the normal relevance rankings can be bypassed if your target is small and specific, such as Company X

So it looks like Google has been crawling my page for about 2 years now, presently it looks like it takes about 12 days before content is searchable.  With that in mind, I guess I have about 12 days to change my mind about what I post :)  Oh yea, I also installed a hit counter.  It tracks page loads, lets assume 1 hit a day from myself, on some days it may be many more if I'm fiddling with the web page, but whatever.  The true unique hits are stored on the server, which I have never even looked at.  I honestly don't really care, but with the diversity of information, and opinion I have provided i suppose its possible I have at least one fan :)

Its happening again...  8-19-2007
I'm pretty bad about not recording phone calls and promises etc when working with a company that is about to screw me over, I know I'm missing a number of the phone calls, which bothers me, but I think I've managed to capture the start, of what hopefully is nothing.  Here is the page ill be recording my interactions with Company X, regarding the wood they shorted me on my last order.

While I was over there I took some video of the light shoe before it was completed in the grand place, so every once in a while i search you tube for the finished thing, haven't found a higher quality (Than mine) video yet, but this is a start !  Here it is !

I'm an addict: 7-29-2007
So I took this quiz on cnn.com, it asks about 20 questions, then tells you what you like to do in your free time, pretty neat really, here is my result (Surprise !):

HOME

You are a home-body and a fix-it-addict. Your house is your ultimate hobby, and rightly so, since there's just so much you can do to it. Everything from decorating to gardening to construction to organizing and even cleaning the gutters gives you a sense of accomplishment and takes up every second of your spare time. You might like hobbies like painting, furniture-making, sewing, gardening, creating your own cleaning supplies, tiling or plumbing.

Vista... Still needs work 7-27-2007

From a sata II to sata II drive, I remember on XP copying this much data between the old IDE ATA 100 drives, might take 2 hours max....   4 Days?  Must be a time dilation bubble or something....  Because in the real world this data actually transferred in about 15 minutes.

9 Years and Counting...  7-25-2007
So, in a little bit, Voyager will break the Helosphere and enter interstellar space, this is the point where the solar system no longer has influence on the 'space' the craft is traveling through, it will truly be outside of our solar system, and susceptible to enemy radar :)  ha-ha.. of course I would hope that aliens capable of interstellar travel aren't interested on conquering puny earth sized planets :)

To get an idea of the scale of the image below, if you look really close you can see the outer planets orbit paths inside the blue ball, they are faint, but visible.

Stargate 7-17-2007

So I really liked the
Creedence Clearwater Revival song in the final Stargate episode, here is the actual music video played in the episode:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTxiSURRsnk

So this one pretty much explains what happens in the last episode, same song, but more clips to encompass the entire episode, in which the team encounters all of the technology of an advanced culture, the Asgard, only moments before being attacked by a formidable enemy, just before destruction carter (The smart one) figures out how to expand the Asgard computer cores time dilation field (which slows time to allow the computer to work faster in our time) to cover the entire ship, so they live out 50 years onboard the starship, and so they live out the rest of their lives on board a ship while the weapon blast creeps closer and closer.  Some go nuts, some fall in love, others cultivate plants, learn secrets of the universe, meditate, or work on a way to get out of it !

This is a really neat video clip of some of the space battles:

Here is a clip of when they were initially trapped in the field, oh and BTW in full surround on a big screen, this scene is the most cinematic space shot I have ever seen !

....And here is where we first met the Asgard, jack has accidentally downloaded ancient knowledge into his head, and travels to meet them.

My 0.002 Cents 6-22-2007
Wow, check out this guy who argued with version for half a year or so before finally getting to a solution.
http://verizonmath.com/  Here is the Audio Recording (might want to find something else to do, it is about an hour long)

He received a bill for:  $71.79 Lets see how that works out...

And we all know that 100 cents is $1.00, and so it follows logically that 71.79 Cents is $0.72, Here is Verizons Version of the math problem:

Now lets get geeky and cancel out the units to show what the equation actually means

I'm going to go convert that big jar of pennies in my closet to dollars :)

My Space Update 6-15-2007
Well, a while back I tried to post a reply to my brothers picture comment, and couldn't.  My space told me that I wasn't my own friend, so I wrote them a letter.  And now, you can reply to your own comments, and comment on yourself.  You can now be your own best friend, isnt that swell?  I would like to take credit for that :)

Getting there  5-30-2007
So I've gutted the entire house, moved walls around, replaced electric, HVAC, plumbing, windows, floors.  I have a pretty nice shanty.  The counter top guy came in today and made the templates, so I'm looking forward to the finishing touches on the kitchen.  I first built the back part of the house where the kitchen is 3 years ago, a large I beam and a loss of walls made the space into a big open area, the 'temporary' countertop, which was a plywood workbench with floor tile for a surface actually lasted 3 years, I rather liked it, and used it as my kitchen while I renovated the 2nd floor, and front of the house.  Once I put the top mark on my cabinets, all that's left is the master bedroom, saving the best for last I guess.  I expect to attack that starting this weekend, I'm still finishing the cabinet doors.  The bedroom is soundproofed, has columns, trayed ceiling, mirror closet doors, a TV spot, and of course, plenty of space for clothes and shoes.  Its a very special room, I just need to find someone to live in it.

Another Totally Awesome Reproducible Microsoft Error  5-22-2007
I'm getting kind of tired of typing my errors into my blarg, I type the errors because I know they will show in search results, so instead, I have created a second file in my root directory, with multiple hidden links etc to improve my search results, as well as asking friends to link to the page.  This page is so awesome, it will document reproducible errors with Microsoft products for the purpose of documentation and improvement.  I understand now that it is virtually impossible to report a 'reproducible error' when you don't have years of totally awesome clout to back yourself up.  And so as a recent advocate, and not to recent totally awesome expert, I will be building a punch list to draw attention towards the issues I feel need at least some attention.

<interlude to create said webpage>

On second thought, I must be in anal mode since I just updated the constitution and bylaws of my old  fraternity (One of those changes made it my job), so I think ill stop writing now and download more I-tunes.
